Skåne life science innovation till Singapore
Medicon Village, represented by Sarah Lidé, Deputy CEO of Medicon Village Innovation, was part of a strong Swedish healthcare and life science delegation to Singapore last week. The visit followed up on the bilateral memorandum of understanding on health innovation signed between Sweden and Singapore in November 2024, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the two countries. The programme was jointly organised by Business Sweden, Swecare, and SwedenBIO.
Led by Jeanette Edblad, Director of the Office for Life Sciences at the Government Offices of Sweden, the delegation brought together representatives from government, academia, and industry. Meetings were held with Singaporean research institutions, venture capital firms, and innovation ecosystem actors to explore opportunities for knowledge exchange and partnership in areas such as knowledge-based healthcare policy, long-term strategies for healthcare, the use of AI and health data, sustainable hospital solutions, biotech and pharma innovation, and financing models for life science.
During the visit, Sarah Lidé presented the vibrant life science ecosystem in Skåne and Medicon Valley – emphasising how Medicon Village supports innovation from idea to market. She also introduced the recently launched regional initiative ATMP Path2Patient, which aims to bridge the critical gap between pioneering research and patient access in the field of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).
“Given that both countries share a strong interest in addressing the challenges of an ageing population, leveraging new technologies such as AI in healthcare, and seizing opportunities in precision medicine and cell and gene therapies, there is a real win-win for Swedish and Singaporean innovation,” said Sarah Lidé. “Both countries are ranked among the world’s most innovative, making joint efforts to develop solutions for shared challenges – and to exchange knowledge in emerging areas such as ATMP – especially valuable.”
Building strategic partnerships, both nationally and internationally, remains a cornerstone of Medicon Village’s 3C approach – enabling access to capital, strengthening the supply of competences, and creating the conditions for successful commercialisation.
